About Me
Hi I am Gail
Like many people, my gardening journey started when I moved into my first house with a garden and wanted to grow flowers and food… but didn’t really have a clue what I was doing!
So I signed myself up for a local night school class called Start Gardening. That quickly led to a Wildlife Gardening course, then Start Garden Design, and before I knew it, I was studying Advanced Garden Design with the Welsh College of Horticulture. One course very naturally led to another.
After moving back to my childhood home on the Ceredigion coast, I created a new garden from scratch and, as my children grew older, I decided to turn what had become a deep passion into my work. I studied RHS Level 2 in Horticulture at the National Botanic Garden of Wales and began working as a private gardener.
Along the way I also qualified as a yoga teacher, and for several years happily divided my time between teaching yoga and gardening - two things that have a lot in common: being present, working with nature rather than against it, and paying attention to what’s going on beneath the surface.
As the years went on, it became clear that garden design is where my heart really lies. I love working with people to help them shape beautiful, practical outdoor spaces that feel right for them. I especially enjoy translating ideas and conversations into drawings, and then finding the plants that will bring those ideas to life.
So, back to college I went to complete RHS Level 3 in Construction, Planting and Design.
Building on that foundation, I later went on to study permaculture, completing a Permaculture Design Certificate accredited by the Permaculture Association UK and studied Naturalistic Planting Design with Nigel Dunnett, Noel Kingsbury and Cassian Schmidt. These have strongly influenced the way I work, helping me to create gardens that are not only beautiful, but biodiverse, resilient and full of life.
I still maintain a small number of gardens because I think it’s important to keep my hands in the soil. Gardening in real spaces, watching how plants behave, change and develop over time, keeps me grounded and continually learning.
Today I divide my time between garden design, gardening and offering garden advice, with a particular passion for creating naturalistic, wildlife-friendly spaces that support biodiversity and feel relaxed, abundant and alive.
Hopefully, I can help you too.
